Health 8:

The objective of this course is to provide students an opportunity to examine their knowledge of healthy living/wellness and develop skills to make responsible decisions in the social, mental and physical aspects of life.   A major goal is for each student to take personal responsibility for their health and well-being while attempting to identify positive lifestyle changes.  The major units of study are:  Nutrition and Physical Activity, Injury Prevention and Safety, Mental Emotional and Social Health, Alcohol, Nicotine and Other Drugs, Prevention and Control of Disease and Growth, Development and Family Life.   Consumer and Community Health will be addressed in each unit. Reading and writing skills, cooperative learning activities, visual aids, decision making skills and interactions with guest speakers will be utilized throughout the semester.  

Adaptive PE:

Adaptive Physical Education is a specially designed class that will address the individual needs of students with disabilities.  Comprehensive skill based monitoring will be conducted to determine each student’s individual needs and progress.  This may include the areas of spatial awareness, core strength, balance, visual tracking, motor skills, body awareness and social interaction.  Adaptations and modifications will be made to ensure that each student will have the opportunity to successfully and safely participate in an accessible physical education environment.  A variety of physical and motor skills will be explored that support a lifetime of leisure, recreation and sport experiences to enhance physical fitness, safety and wellness.
